About Nightingale: Esther Lange doesn’t love her fiancé—she’s trapped in an engagement after a mistaken night of passion.
Still, she grieves him when he’s lost in battle, the letters sent to her by the medic at his side giving her a strange comfort, so much that she strikes up a correspondence with Peter Hess, an Iowa farmboy. Or is he? Peter Hess is not who he seems. Indeed, he’s hiding a secret, something that could cost them both their lives, especially when the past comes back to life. A bittersweet love song of the home front war between duty and the heart...a battle where only one will survive.

My Thoughts: Esther Lange is trapped. She is trapped by circumstance, trapped by her mistakes, trapped by people who should love her but do not.
Peter Hess is also trapped. He was trapped in his own country, trapped into war and trapped in the most basic sense of the word.
Linus was also trapped by one night of passion, trapped by family expectations and trapped by injuries that heal on their own time table.
All of the three main characters fight their battles valiantly and after finally trusting the Lord, do they find solace even in difficult situations.
Susan artfully weaves a story that is so vivid, you can smell a hospitol ward, smell the soot and see the sun gleaming off of an Iowa field.
Susan crafts a story that buries itself into your heart and heals wounds you might not even know were there. She delivers a true message in a way like no other author I've read lately.
Nightingale is a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat, will make your heart ache and yet soar in it's pages.
Perserverance, faithfullness, submission and love are at the root of this fascinating tale!
